Fall Semester Highlights...

Updated: Feb 14, 2020

With Fall Semester is coming to end, it seems like a good time to reflect on the best parts of the last 4 months!

The best part of this semester by far has been having my mum and dad come out to Evansville to visit. Two weeks of homecooked meals, Airbnb's and parts of Evansville we didn't mean to find. It was tough letting them leave without taking us with them.

Mum and dad took me and Sophia away twice over the weekends they were here. On the first weekend, we went to an Airbnb in Shawnee National Forest, Southern Illinois. It was a cute little cabin in the woods, and on the way home we visited a place called the Garden of the Gods, which was beautiful!

The second week, my parents found themselves an Airbnb just down the road from the University campus. Me and Sophia spent the evenings with them, eating warm meals and doing our homework! We also celebrated Halloween, but without all the sweets!

For the second weekend, we went to Loogootee, which is a small Amish village in Indiana. We had another Airbnb, which was right on the lake front, it was lovely! We went for a long walk round one of the national parks nearby, but had to watch out because it was crossbow hunting season! However, we had to say goodbye to mum and dad on the Sunday, as they drove back up to Chicago for their flight home on the Monday!

At the start of the semester, me and Sophia decided to rent a car and drive down to Nashville, Tennessee. It was quite expensive to rent the car, but was nice to get out of Evansville! We went into the centre, which was filled with very country restaurants playing live music. Then went a bit further out to a mall that was huge! It must have been a mile in length, it was massive! But it was great, and full of lots of outlets, and cafes!

During Fall Break, Sophia, Alex, Riccardo, Diego and I took a trip to Indianapolis. Alex has a car, so he drove us all up and we wondered around the town. Indianapolis wasn't as lively as Nashville, but it was nice. We also took a walk along the canal, which was really nice, and I think you can hire peddle boats to go down the canal in!

Me and Sophia have also enjoyed going to the Basketball games, which are very intense even if we aren't sure of the rules! They're loud and have a fun atmosphere!

We also watched Riccardo and Diego, who are in the swim team, at one of their meets that took place at the University. That was also very intense, and we nearly lost our voices cheering for them both!

Finally, Thanksgiving! We were taken in by Sophia's host family for Thanksgiving. We ate lots of foods I've never had before and probably couldn't tell you what they were, but they tasted good! It was interesting to experience the holiday with their family!

We've kept fairly busy throughout the semester, but are definitely ready for the Christmas break!
